The Eagle's Song Revised

On this great and glorious Sunday, May 5th, in the Year of our Lord 2013 A.D., the Eastern
Orthodox Church celebrates the death of Death, the downfall of Satan, and the liberation and
renewal of Mankind. Two years ago I rewrote a song in The Return of the King in which an Eagle
of the Valar announces the downfall of Sauron and the triumph of Aragorn to his people in Minas
Tirith. I post the rewrite now to pay tribute to Christ's holy Pascha (Easter) and to show that the destiny
of 'base-born mortals' far exceeds that of angels, gods and Elves. The structure of the poem remains
unaltered, I simply changed the names.

The Eagle's Song
Revised

Sing now, ye people of the House of Israel,
for the Realm of Satan is ended forever,
and the dominion of Death is thrown down.

Sing and rejoice, ye Prophets of old
for you did not prophecy in vain,
and the Gates of Hadies are broken
and the King of Glory hath passed through
and He is victorious.

Sing and be glad, all ye Children of Men,
for your God is come again
and He shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

And the Tree that was cursed shall be blessed
and He shall raise it in the high places
and all the Earth shall be renewed.

Sing all you people: Christ is Risen!
